i have an athlon xp 2100 ( i think it was a palmino processor), an asus a7v333 motherboard and 1GB up mushkin ram, 100 gb western digital mainboard and an aiw 9700.

but heres my problem

after booting up the computer it will run for a few minutes just fine. Then all of a sudden it locks up. then when i reset it the screen goes black and doesnt post , in the mean time the hard drive light remains on with no hard drive activity. So i shut it off. After a few minutes i turn it on and go into the bios and get this message under the advanced tab

"During the last bootupyou system hung for an improper cpu speed setting. youi system is now owrking in safe mode. To optimize the sypstem performance and reliability make sure the cpu speed conforms to the specifications of your cpu":

But the the motherboard in jumper free mode, so it should do all the settings by itself right? I am not overclocking or anythin.

Does this mean my motherboard is shot or cpu? (im guessing motherboard since it does run a bit)

"JumperFree" mode does not always detect the CPU speed automatically. It simply means that your CPU speed can be set in the BIOS as opposed to in hardware. The only motherboards that auto-detect the processor's stock speed are made by Intel. And Intel's motherboards are only for Intel's processors (DUH!).

In the case of your Asus mobo, it will select the lowest FSB speed that your mobo supports - in this case, 100MHz (for an effective 200MHz FSB). With your Athlon XP 2100+, this corresponds to an actual MHz speed of 1300MHz, or 1.3GHz. You will have to manually set that to 1733MHz in the BIOS - and 1733MHz is one of the two speed choices (the other being 1300MHz), along with "User Defined".

ok it was already set at 1733 setting. but for some reason it keeps doing this over and over, no matter what setting i have my cpu speed at wether it is at 1300, 1733, or 2166 (not sure on that last number). I

any other suggestoins?
