What is equivalent to a 1900XT these days?

Well it looks like my trusty 1900XT is on it's way out (severe artifacts that start at the POST screen). I've tried cleaning it off and reseating it but it didn't make a difference. I'll give it a more thorough once over on my day off, but baring that I need a replacement.

I mostly play WoW and some CoD4 at 1440x900 using XP. I'm trying to stay clear of Vista as long as possible.

I'd like to stay at $200 or less, any suggestions?

You can get a lot better if you use most to all of that $200 on a 8800GT. A 150AR 9600GT is still a good bit better than the X1900XT, anything less might not even be worth buying right now because it's either outdated or hasn't dropped in price accordingly (at least, I can't seem to find any HD3850s lower than the 9600GT after rebate price point).

For $200, you can pretty much get twice the card of an X1900XT, in the form of an 8800GT. There are deals to be had that should easily net you an 8800GT for under $200 after rebate, such as the MSI 8800GT which comes with a great stock cooler at newegg.

9600GTs are roughly the same too, and can be had for around $175.

At $200 budget I see no reason not to get an 8800GT 512MB, they are popping up at or under $200 everywhere lately.

I wouldn't call an 8800gt nearly twice the card of the x1900xt, having owned both cards. Obviously it's a big jump in some games, but a portion of that jump is taken away by the fact that AA and AF hit the 8800GT a LOT harder than they hit the X1900. General image quality is also lower. I'd say it's more like 1.5X the card.

Also, I must say that having owned an x1900xt for 1.5 years, then upgraded to 8800GT that I had to RMA, and now using SLIed 8800GTS, my next card will definitely be ATI. I've been shocked at how crappy nvidia's drivers are. The X1900 was completely trouble free in every game I owned, whereas the 8800s have had nagging little issues in quite a few games.

8800GT man. For $200 this is the card to go with. I play COD4 at 1680 x 1050 with 4X AA and some setting on high it runs pretty well in Visat 32 bit. It's definitely not twice the speed of your X1900XT but, enough to show a difference in some games and at higher res. Enabling AA does hit this card as well as most cards also pretty hard.

Great thanks for the advice guys. I'll try and snag an 8800GT 512MB if I see a deal (they seem $200+ around here though), otherwise I'll grab a 9600GT. I've found a 9600GT for $149 :)
