What is causing this?

Ive got a x800 pro non overlocked and 2 of the ati demos always give me this problem no matter if i turn off fast writes, aa and af or vsync. Ive tried the 4.7's 4.8's and now the 4.9's

Every game runs perfect doom3,farcry,bfvietnam, bf1942 etc but this is driving me nuts cause the ati demos are so pretty.

I dont know how to image host so heres a link with a screen shot. The problem is all those black squares. Does anyone else have this problem on a x800 or any ati card and any ideas of how to fix this? http://home.insightbb.com/~t.mccoy/wsb/html/view.cgi-image.html--graphic.html

Those black squares aren't supposed to be there? At first I looked at the picture and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Had to go reread your post.

No they are not suppost to be there. They only appear on the demo of the outside sky texture. Ive tried redloading the demos also and reinstalling didnt help.

could be a driver issue.... do you have SP2 and DX 9.0C and the catalyst 4.9's?

Yes service pack 2 and direct x newest version. As far as driver Ive already tried 3 sets read the post

My money is on a defective card. Isn't this pattern similar to what you used to get if you modded a 9500 to a 9700 if the chip was actually defective?

I hope your wrong but you very well may be right. Only thing I havent done is reinstall everything from scratch. It takes me 3 months to get everything configured the way I want it. So i really dont want to do this.

I hear ya there. Do you have a way to take the card to another PC and try it with the demo's there? This sure would help in ruling the card in or out on this one. If it turns out to be a software issue, could you possibly have messed with the settings by using a tweaker program such as the one Rage3d.com is peddling and forgot? I used to toy around with those settings and cause wierd crap to happen. I kind of stay away from them nowdays.

I wish I could run the demo myself, but my old 9700-pro isn't supported.
