i was at frys the other day and i wanted a cat5 crossover cable, but all i found were cat6 crossover cables.

will this work just like a cat5 crossover to link my comp with my laptop?

Yea its just a higher grade of cable, nowadays you should get at least Cat5e or Cat6.

It's rated for higher frequencies then cat5. Will work fine.

Cat 5e is rated to a bandwidth of 100mhz.

Cat 6 is rated to a bandwidth of 250mhz.

Any advantage from using a Cat 6 cable vs Cat 5e right now would be in better transmission performance and some improved immunity from external noise because of the lower specs to get a higher bandwidth capability. If your installing an entire network it would gain you some future compatability.

It should be noted that you need Cat6 for a Gigabit network. However, it's fully compatible with 10/100 equipment as well.

I thought Cat5e would also work for gigabit? Regardless, we use Cat6 in my house. Cat5 in school though.
