is it when you can see light from the bulbs when you look at the back of the monitor, or is it light from the bulbs leaking around the edge of the LCD? I've read that people say that the 2005FPW has backlight leaking problems, so what exactly is backlight leaking?

As a rule its poor assembly and can be fixed, but of course you void your warrantee for trying to do what should have been done right to begin with.
With most monitors under normal use you cant see enough of the bleed even when using pure black as a background color for it to be an issue. Some people want perfection (or want an excuse not to keep the unit) and wont accept any level of edge bleed.
When you get yours you will have to decide whats acceptable for you.
I had a slight amount and took the unit apart and fixed it.
Interesting stuff. Wanted to see if someone did a step by step guide with pictures, so searched a little. Found a site that sells LCD parts, pretty much everything to rebuild em. They had two PDFs, HERE and HERE of a backlight installation and from reading that, it really doesn't look all that hard. The site can be found here LCDPART .
I didn't find anything discribing fixing backlight bleed though, but I would assume from BillR's post it is nothing more then a poor fit of the panel, allowing bleedthrough of the light. Now, can I use a silicon putty to cover the edges of the panel or will anything touching the edges of the back of the panel show through as a dark spot?
