I know its the K8L but thats not coming out for another 6 months I believe... is there anything coming out soon to truly compete with the conroe??? If not.. I may want to switch to Intel if thats the case...

AMD's answer currently is NO! :p Actually, the only thing they can do is lower prices on processors that people coveted for months after release yet couldn't afford. The strategy is to keep people with AMD by not only lowering the prices but also making it well known that AM2 hardware will support AM3. Will it be enough? Too soon to tell..

In my opinion, AMD really has no answer to Conroe in terms of performance. Honestly, I don't think it really needs one either. For one, the performance difference is close enough that for most users, it will be hardly noticeable outside of synthetic benchmarks. In games, the bottleneck will lie with the GPU before the CPU is tested enough to mark a difference between AM2 and C2D processors. Also, AMD is generally lower-priced, so if nothing else, they can appeal to the market that doesn't want to spend $150+ on a motherboard.

How many of these threads are there going to be?????

THIS IS LIKE THE 20TH THREAD

For the 90th time, K8L out in the 1H of 07. Patience. Go buy a Conroe and be quiet.

There is no AMD answer to Conroe. One hopes that there will be. But right now, there is no answer to Conroe.

unless you encode DVD's or the like, in which case 1/2 hr to a full hour of time saved per disc is pretty significant and quite noticeable in the real world, i would definately get the goody out of that to say the least
