What is a Troll?

I know this is a dumb question. I have been around long enough to know a lot of terms but I don't truly know what a "Troll" is. I thought it was just someone that pesters you in threads and causes heated debates but I am not really sure. I read both the FAQ and the buying and selling FAQ and it didn't really explain it at all.
So what is a Troll?

A troll is a person who says something just to illicit a response from someone else generally to pick a fight or start an argument. Think of it as fishing....trolling motor, reeling someone in....taking the bait, etc.

The term "troll" used here that he's referring to means a bad trader than a "don't feed the trolls"-type typical posting troll ranting about Steam's DRM sucks donkey balls or something...

The use of "troll" that he was questioning wasn't the type of troll the other responders responded with though. No one responded to the use of troll that he was questioning. They just googled troll and used that definition, which isn't the use of troll he was looking for the definition to.

Troll doesn't typical mean a scammer. Googling "troll" didn't help clear this up.
