What is a good "Scandisk" type program?

Are there any programs similar to memtest86 that will do a complete scan of my hard drive in order to find and/or fix any errors or bad sectors?

Well, there's scandisk and chkdsk for windows. I use "badblocks" for Linux when I have a questionable; it has a read-only test that it uses by default, and a read-write one (which will destroy your data!) for extra assurance.
