This is my first time buiding a computer so hope I got everything. I was gonna go with a Athlon XP 2000+ ($64) retail for the price or the 2500+ barton retail but have been reading all the threads about the mobiles clocking to 2.4ghz stable. Id be happy with 2.2ghz for a first timer. Whats a good/quiet hsf for the 2400+ 45 watt? Id like to keep the price at around $25. System specs below.

$89 - Antec Performance Series II Case w/ 350 Watt PSU
$16 - 2x Vantec 80mm Stealth Fans (for front intake)
$55 - Shuttle AN35N-Ultra 400
$77 - AMD Athlon Mobile 2400+ 45 Watt
$82 - GEIL Value Series PC-3200 DDR-400 512MB RAM
$56 - Seagate 80GB 7200RPM IDE HDD
$47 - Transcend ATI RADEON 9200 64MB DDR Video Card
$9 - Samsung 1.44MB FDD
$62 - NEC ND-2510A 8x DVD Burner

I dont have all the parts yet...I just have the case, fans, floppy and dvd burner. I was gonna order the rest of the internals. TIA

How much $$ do you have to spend on a HSF? If you have dough to spare, get a SP-97 and a 92mm vantec tornado along with a rheobus to quiet it down. That should more then handle anything you want to do with a XP-M.

Try the Scythe Kamakaze....pretty decent cooling, as long as you're not going nuts. It comes with a speed adjuster for the fan too. About 30$

Thermaltake Silent Boost has done well for me... nice and quite, and the all copper peice is nice.
