My Turtle Beach earforce X1's are really worn out and I am looking for a new headset. Basically just use it to talk on ventrillo. Was thinking about just getting the new version of the turtle beach headset unless you guys have any better recommendations?
 
at home i use sennheiser hd555's with a zalman mic attached to the wire, but i also have a pair of sennheiser pc 151's for like $60 on amazon. I would recommend sennheiser over any other brand, they are an amazing company, and their customer support is pretty good, i emailed them earlier thanking them for a product that works so well and comfortable i can webcam with my family whose back home in the states while im in afghanistan, and the CEO responded to my email pretty quickly the next day for me. Medusa also makes a great product. I say sennheiser, then medusa's. then steelseries, depends on your price range.
 
yeah $40 is right lol i forgot i paid that cheap for them, they are originally like $80 or $90

sennheiser is a great brand, any game will tell you that unless theyve never used them, i was skeptical on buying a $200 hd555 but after i did and have had them for 3 years now i will always get them. With a good or even decent soundcard the headset works great, when i get home and i use ventrillo these will be around my neck with 555's over my ears.
 
I didn't know Turtle Beach still existed? I had a Turtle Beach Montego (or something) sound card on my old Pentium 133 system back in the mid-90's. I haven't seen a Turtle Beach product in years. Good to know they are still kicking.

Anyway, Sennheiser is always a good choice. They have models to fit most budgets, and most perform well in their price range. I had a pair a while back that got stolen (or lost, I'm not really clear on that). Loved them, but I was tight on funds so I replaced them with a pair of Plantronics that were on sale for like 35 bucks, which I'm still reluctantly using. They sound ok (just ok), but they murder your earlobes if you wear them for longer than 10 minutes at a time. I tell you that because by contrast the Sennheisers were the most comfortable headphones I've worn in a very long time, rivaled only by an old pair of Radio Shack cans I had when I was younger. Those things felt like pillows on your ears, but the sound was pretty garbage lol.
 
My vote goes for the Corsair HS-1's. I love em and for the price especially they can't be beat. they got a great review here at [H].

I remember my old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card... loved that thing.
 
looking at the corsairs for $99 is a little pricey for a company that specializes in ram, they might be a good head set, but i'd rather spend $50 more for some sennheisers from a company who specializes in headsets, not just computer headsets but all headsets especially helicopters

Thing is, anything Corsair does, they do well. For the price, the HS1 are outstanding.

This is exactly correct which is why I bought em. I've had a few pairs of sennheishers over the years and they are great. This time I wanted to try something different and I am very pleased with the purchase.
 
i just ordered the corsair HS1, so can't wait for this bad boy to be arrive and put it to use on deployment
 
For the last years I've used Beyerdynamic studio headphones, models like DT 770. If you see a headset in a music studio, it's probably this one. I've tried Sennheiser a couple of times, high end ones, but they've always sounded thin to me, compared to Beyer's. Sennheiser's have good dynamic range, very detailed soundscape, but yeah, thin sound. Beyer sound could be described as warm and lush, good tight bass response, but might not have that extreme detail of Sennheiser, but more than good enough.
 
Think before you buy the Corsair HS1's. if you have a large head as I do they do hurt after use. I had to return mine cause they were just to tight on my head. If you look at newegg reviews wich I try not to at times you will see alot of others such as myself with this problem.

Dont get me wrong they sounded great but in my opinion they are not made to wear hours on end.
 
If the band that provides tension to the headset you can use a couple of books to stretch it out for a better fit. That's what I had to do with my Sennheiser headphones.
