After Diablo 3 was announced I have not heard anything new about Starcraft 2, it's almost as it complete went off the grid. WTH?

Anyone have news on it? Last I heard there was a controversy on if it was coming out on December 3rd or later.

Pretty much all that is known, anything beyond that is pure speculation since Blizzard has not made any formal announcement.

Dude, you just aren't Korean enough.

Thats totally going to be my quote for today.

Sad though we go so much on Diablo 3 and almost nothing on Starcraft 2, wich if I remember correctly Starcraft 2 has been wanted ever since Broodwar came out. Also didn't starcraft come out before Diablo 2? Man I got a bad memery.

Anyone know where I can get my hands on the Starcraft 2 demo thats going around in Korea?

My freind thats from the states there isn't so keen on picking stuff up like that.

Wasn't there a death toll at some point showing all the lives lost to Aiur. Showing the Zerg, Terran, Protoss, and Koreans?

I think the Koreans had the most casultys to. So many generations lost, and unborn from that game. "Their life for Aiur!" En Taro Adun.

Prob haven't heard much from it because isn't it pretty much ready for Beta then Release? The game looks pretty polished from the screen caps and videos... I was talking with some friends the other day and seems to us that the game is pretty much done. It just looks to be ironing out some balancing issuses in house and some singleplayer maps/story things. All I can say is SC2 > D3 for me. If I wanted to grind quest I'd play mmo <3

Close your eyes and picture SC 1... remember that?? It's exactly like that.

Arguably, getting the balancing right in a game like SC is what takes the most time. Heck, they were still changing the cost of units years after the first game was released.

I didn't have too much faith in the new SC until I started reading the SC2 Q&A's.

This Q&A has got something for everyone and got me really psyched for the game. Gotta say, I'm looking forward to it now, but really hope someone makes a "retro" mod for it, that just basically gives back all the orignal+broodwar units so you can play the oldschool style in the new engine.

I still play oldschool SC, so being able to do that would be a massive feature for me.

Lots of talk about it at the WWI. Sounds like it's coming out this year.

On a side note it was discovered that Diablo 3 has been in development now for 4 years and it's still not done. Not likely to launch until next year.

For this reason and also considering blizzard's history, I'd expect a long beta test, probably around 6 months. They like to let people beat on and exploit things so they can get these issues ironed out before release. You just can't do that in house. Obviously that would make a december release impossible but most people probably think that date was impossible anyway.

That having been said, they definitely seemed to sit on both these new games for far longer than they did before. By the time they demoed them they had really nice looking gameplay footage to show. I wouldn't anticipate the normal 3-4 years after debut we saw with their previous games. And from their perspective why bother? You'll by hyped to all hell anyway, its just more media and drama to deal with. Might as well keep it under wraps as long as you can.

Indeed, overhype seems to be a problem with some of the games we've seen in the last year (personally, Bioshock and Crysis come to mind).

I wasn't expecting it to hit this year, and I never let a release date (especially from blizzard) go to my head. My personal guess would be Q2-Q3 of 2009. But that's just pure speculation.

I just wonder what they will do (if anything) to attempt to draw some of the diehard retro fans in. I've thought about suggesting to include all the retro units and values for a selectable game mode, but I doubt they'd do it. They were, however gauging user feedback about the original and broodwar units and taking that into account when selecting units for SC2. Frankly though, I'd hate to see any of the classic units disappear without some sort of substitute/replacement. Even ones that go under-utilized quite a bit, like firebats and infected terrans.

Either way, I am sure someone will mod it for the original and broodwar units.

The thing is that Blizzard is a well known company that NEVER let's anyone done. Blizzard, Valve, and Infinity Ward always release top notch games that aren't let downs. Crysis was a let down because they are a new gaming developer with not that much experience and I honestly thought that Bioshock was absolutely amazing.

Infinity Ward isn't in the same stratosphere as Valve and Blizzard. COD4's multiplayer is good, but its single player is pathetic.

You say this like it's a bad thing. I'm sick of Blizzard teasing crap when they are always years away from release. Wake me when the games are done.

Same with Valve: I just hit the snooze button every time a newspost comes up about them. I almost feel bad for the people that get excited about TF2, Left 4 Dead, etc. The wait must be agonizing for them.

It's almost unavoidable that someone out there will be let down, but it won't be the majority, that's for sure. What I am indicating though, is that it's foolproof if they had a retro option in it so people could go back and play with the original units and such, that way if they liked the first, they can't possibly find any major fault with the changes made in the second. Anyway, while this is likely to be done by a mod team after release, it's only wishful thinking for now.

I thought Bioshock was a let down because I played and adored System Shock 2, and with bioshock being its' "spiritual successor" I imagined it being very similar in concept and gameplay. It was not, and it ended up with a product that I felt was very dumbed-down for the console, did not have proper pc controls (you couldn't, and as far as I know, still can't do something as simple as WALK) and the mouse smooth/acceleration had some major problems that completely threw off my aim. Yeah, I suppose those are mostly personal gripes, but it seemed like a step down in gameplay terms of what System Shock 2 presented. Of course the audio and visuals were top notch, and quite impressive, but that's never made the game for me.

Just my $0.02

Maybe their office is so stuffed full of WoW money that they can't get to the meetings.

There's something to be said for what happens when a company doesn't need to release a hot new title, or has painted themselves into a genre corner.

Time for a spinoff company... would it be called Heatwave?

*Just dropped the whole Asia channel.

Blizzard doesn't do big press releases for games they've already announced until it's gone gold. All info they will release is a drip feed via their websites. Just read the official SC2 website if you want to keep updated. The last update was July 3rd, previous was June 17th, before that was May 23rd. They keep updating it fairly regularly, but slowly.

Am I the only one that doesn't care about sc2 or diablo3? Just curious...

as soon as I can get an official release date on sc2, my clan of 6 are going to pre-purchase a copy. we still play broodwar at least 2 times a week. Sadly, we are still not as good as the Koreans.:p
