Ok, I was going to get the X800GTO2, but it looks like that's not happening.

What graphics card should I get for the computer in my sig? Price can be anywhere from $150 to maybe even $300, but that's streching it. Keep in mind that I might be able to unlock the NF4-Ultra to SLI, so I could get a job I could buy another cheap card later.

If you can save up a tiny bit more, I'd say get teh 7800GT in the hot deal's section. 289.99 after MIR. If not.... a 6800GT or X800XL should do ya good.

Also the new Radeon X1800XL is gonna be about the same price as the 7800GT vid card. It will will surpass it by quite a bit when ATI releases its new drivers that support newer AMD 64 architecture (dual core)

I recommend the 6800 GT that way you get your full $150's worth and then you can last through another generation of card changes and save the big bucks for next time around.

get 7800gt/x800gto2...or w8 this generation out and get something like a 6600gt.x800gt, so u can play games well, but wont spend too much money

I'd say spend less than $200, and wait through this next generation..
Go with the X800GTO, instead of the GTO2.. you'll get good performance for only $185... it will definately hold you over for some time

Yeah that's what i meant to say in the first place. Get a 6600gt. Save the money. Get a next gen card next time around. Really? as long as you get playable framerates and a nice picture in the new games out. What justifies an "overkill graphics card"? People are spending more money on their GPU then the CPU, mobo, and ram. The geforce 3 if i remember that's all back when the $300 starting price of graphics cards started. Think of it this way? You can buy a 27 inch tv for that. /end rant

7800GT's now come with Call Of Duty 2, so if you were thinking of buying that game you could deduct it from the cost of the card.

But with the GTO2 you'll get almost twice the performancefor only 20 more $.

Right, but the 144 is a very fast single core, and nV already has pretty slick dual core drivers. Just to add, SMP is in no way a AMD64 invention, it's been around for many years.

i second (third?) the vote for the x800gto2 . flash that card to x850xt pe (16P 540/590) and you have yourself one heck of a $200.

i still have an AGP system so i bought an x800pro vivo and will flash it to a x800xt pe. also a $200 card but i wont be getting as much of a gain as you with the gto2. agp users get shafted once more.

Why isn't the GTO2 gonna work? It's probably the best card in your price range.

because it's been out of stock for over a week now, and I'm beginning to doubt that they'll get it back in.

Where are you freaking people getting the idea that the GTO2 is only $200 ???

Newegg has theirs at $279
Lowest price on Pricewatch is $255...

Now, I'm not sure where alot of you guys took high school math.. but this is nowhere near $185 or that matter, this supposedly $200 everyone keeps talking about..
Over $250, I wouldn't use it toward a GTO2... just spend a little more for a 7800GT
And I seriously doubt the GTO2 has "twice" the performance of the GTO.. as someone previously posted..

How are you making me look sort of foolish? I knew about the OEM version that Newegg has on AUTO NOTIFY status

Can you buy that right now? What if I was buying today? They do not even have an estimated time of arrival on these.
Whenever you can buy this card for $200, right now, come back and inform me of it.. until then.... you can not get the GTO2 for $200
the supply is diminishing quickly.... the lucky ones that snagged them up for $200 should treasure them dearly.. Its a great deal!

I believe the 6xxx series also supports the SM 3.0 features..
7xxx series is on a smaller, 110nm die process.. versus 130nm for the 6xxx series...

thats off the top of my head.. I may be wrong on that, or not exact..

did nV add any new features to the 7 seires, or can the 6 seires do all the fancy shader models and stuff?

The 7 series is WAY faster at the new 3.0sm effects, the 6 series is usually too slow for the main ones like HDR and soft shadows.
The 7 series also has better antialiasing techniques which is not a sm standard

Well, seeing as how I want this computer to last for as long as possible, I'm gonna go with a $300 7800GT.

edit: will a 2.8ghz A64 limit the 7800GT, or will it be the other way around?
