I was assuming All would understand that. But after reading your post . I seen that it might fly over some people's thinking. So I did edit . TO show we were disscussing a Word change discribing that color only. I really shouldn't have had to add that that edit . But you made it neccessary when I seen you were thinking color change rather than word change discribing that color. . As for me changing or editing for anyother reason is just plain stupid. I got banned from AT because of this very reason . Make a statement I find easy to understand than someposter comes along and can't see the obveious. I was taught green is green . Someone else was taught green was red.

I'm glad you're asking for help to understand some of this magic computer stuff. instead of just ranting. Computers, computer languages, programs, are defined and well understood. You just need to talk to the right people in the right fields. You should read about quantum (physics) computers. That would probably interest you more!

You also would do well in Philosophy class. Ever take one? You'd love to argue the brain in a vat theory, or the "if the brain was simple enough to understand, then we would be too simple to understand it", or god is unimagineable for our simple minds.

Anyway, to answer your question.... if you have the source code, (code written in a high level language, like C+, etc..) all you should probably have to do is just open your compiler program, select your source code, tick the 64-bit, box and then click compile. Almost as easy as opening an adobe photoshop file (source) and resaving it as .jpg.

They do the same basic thing..... the larger original is easier to understand, manipulate and change, then the output is the compiled "image".

I'm kind of over simplifying it, but to get something to work in 64-bit mode its quite simple, now to optimize it for 64-bit might take a little more tweaking, but still quite simple.

Or you can manually edit the final proguct (machine language, but you can sometimes break things like that, or you can make them work better if you know what you're doing) Kinda the same with an adobe original file vs .jpg.

64 bit is useless for most people now, and will be for the next couple years at least. I guess if you are going to buy a desktop, go for it, since there are a lot of desktop chips that support it, for a laptop, forget it as the P-M and Core Duo don't, and they have many other benefits over the Turion.

There are many highlevel languages, C++ is just one of them, so they're not equal.

You're just not thinking about it the right way.
Gates are deep inside the processor, and aren't exposed to the 'outside world'.
Think of it like cylinders in a car engine. You won't ever see them, because they're deep inside the block. The only way to see them is to take them apart. But you don't have to see them in order to drive the car. And whether you have 1 cylinder or 8 cylinders, it makes no difference in how hard it is to drive the car. You will barely notice. Just like 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs barely make a difference to a programmer.

And if you want to drive, you don't have to directly touch the engine, or even see it. You just have to use the controls of the car, like the wheel, the throttle, the clutch, the brakes, the stick. They are much like the instructionset of a CPU. They allow the driver to use the car, like the instructionset allows the programmer to use the CPU.

I hope it makes sense now. Everything seems to make more sense when cars are involved.

Any idea if this was/is government enforced? I did some research a while back on the history of both companies. I know Intel and AMD have had some legal battles with each other, and I think the cross-licensing agreement was a result of this?
