What gives?

I've just upgraded from a cheap, cramped and dusty OEM PC case with single 80mm fan and cables everywhere, to a Silverstone TJ05 with front and back 120mm fans and one side 80mm, with all the cables pulled out of the airflow path. The temps on my 6800U have actually gone up a couple of degrees!

Is the temperature of the room really so important that it completely overrides any aircooling improvements you can make? I've moved house and it's a bit warmer than my old place, but it's not a greenhouse or anything.

The temperature of the room will make a pretty big difference. Even though the air is moving through your case, it really can't be any cooler than the ambient temperature of the room in an air cooled system.

I know that my vid card overclocks change depending on the seasons.

I'm running rthdribl on it at the moment and the GPU temp is up to 81C after about 10 minutes. It used to get up to 74-75C

Bang go my chances of hitting Ultra Extreme clocks lol.
