So I'm just about to assemble my new rig and I want some games to play on it and really utilize the machine. Some highlights: radeon 5850 & i7-930 (soon to be overclocked)

Anyways. I haven't gamed in a long long time. Last games I really played were WoW (pre-expansion yeehhhhh molten core and ragnaros ftw), CS Source, and some modern version mod of battlefield 1942.

As far as my xbox (which recently broke for good) I loved playing CoD modern warfare 1 and 2, as well as assasins creed 1 and mass effect 1

I've already bought battlefield bad company II. I'm looking for another FPS game and MAYBE an mmorpg (an addiction I'm not sure I want to start again). I heard assasins creed II is crap for the PC due to the need to always connect to servers that are always down. I also heard modern warfare 2 is crap for PC as well since it's essentially just a direct port from xbox.

So yah.... any reccomendations for an FPS or maybe a game like assasins creed/mass effect/and possibly WoW?

Thanks =)

I haven't played wow for 2 years, there is a free 10 day wrath of the lich king trial. I tried it out and just couldn't get into it. You might want to try the trial before you decide to play, there is also a 7 day trial (but not wrath of the lich king) which you can add to get 17 days free. I just pvp and to me it now seems that there are too many abilities and pvp is just a mess and you die way to fast. It's like playing old wow with abilities but dieing in one shot on an fps game, i don't know how to explain it but the feel was very weird to me.

I find myself just playing halo 3 or mw2

Fallout 3 with mods, ME2, and maybe check out The Witcher.

Actually, nevermind. No interest in going back to WoW or any other MMORPG. I don't want to get sucked into that cavernous time pit again =)

Is modern warfare and assasins creed II as horrible as people make it out to be for the PC? Also, what's dragon age origins like?

Howbout crysis or just cause 2?

No, MW2 and Assassins Creed 2 are both lots of fun to play. People have gone overboard with their complaints about the games. Try and pick them up on sale if you can, so at least you won't be too disappointed even if they don't match up to your standards.

Crysis and Just Cause 2 are also great games... They look absolutely gorgeous and they are great fun as well..

As a general tip, since you are coming back to PC gaming after a while, keep on the lookout for sales and discounts. You will be surprised how quickly games go on sale after release, and also by just how cheap you can get games if you have a bit of patience.

Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2
Bioshock, Bioshock 2
Crysis, Warhead
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Left For Dead 2
FEAR, FEAR 2
Oblivion and mods

Just some of my personal favorites

Dragon Age: Orgins was a really good game, I would definitely suggest checking that out.

MW2 isn't as bad as people make it out to be. AC2 sounds way worse with what Ubisoft did with its DRM.

I would also recommend ME2 if you're familiar with the series at all. Crysis is fun as well.

I also concur on your MMO dilemma. I dropped WoW again about this time last year after playing through the WoTLK expansion to the end of Ulduar. I may get back into it for Cataclysm but I still cringe at the thought, sigh, dysfunctional relationship I know.

Just Cause 2 is pretty sweet (3rd person action game). Really fun sandbox -- I can't get enough of it right now. It runs really smooth on my pc and looks great. I play it with an xbox 360 controller, but that's just personal preference. GTA4 runs like ass on my rig, but your i7 might make it run a bit better. Crysis is definitely worth picking up -- try to grab the complete pack with warhead and crysis wars. Still the best looking thing out there. Definitely get Orange Box -- Team Fortress 2 rocks, Portal is a ton of fun. Torchlight, Dragon Age, and Fallout 3 are also great.

Orange Box. Too much fun in one box

HL2 + both Episodes
TF2
Portal

What in the wide wide world of sports?

Nobody mentions STALKER? A terrific series! And it'll work out your hardware.
