What file formats will DVD players read?

As a follow up to my previous post. I have a video in miniDV that I shot and edited with premiere pro. It is the trial version, so I do not have the "export to DVD" feature. While I wait for my full version to arrive, is there a format that I can convert it to and burn it with Nero or Roxio to that will be read by a newer progressive scan DVD player. I do not want to sacrifice quality by burning a VCD or something of that nature. Will a player read it as .avi or some other similar uncompressed format?

It depends on the reader, they are all different. Look at the specs that came with yours and determine the best possibe course of actions. DVD's are expensive (at least for me) so avoid make a coaster at all costs. Just wait for your full version to get there.
