What exactly is SFF?

This may be a stupid question for this forum, but what actually constitutes a SFF system? Does it include all micro-atx based systems, or is it exclusive to the 'cube' type cases/systems like ones by Shuttle and Biostar? Or does it fall in a gray area between.
 
That should be only mATX boards or smaller, I think all ATX cases can take mATX motherboards...
 
SFF includes several different form factors. I think the largest form factor that is still considered SFF is micro-ATX. FlexATX and mini-ITX also fit in, as do the Shuttle, iDeq, and a few other barebones kits.

I guess an easier way to put it is this: It's anything that's smaller than full ATX.
 
The mATX towers are kind of a borderline....Same thing with the x-qpack. For the most part though the rule of thumb is if it takes at highest a mATX mobo...its SFF. Custom smaller ones are sff too.
