I don't really understand what all this stuff on the front page is about... could smoeone give me a short description? Something about two GPU's or something? And is ATI doing SLI also or whatever?

Take a look at the 9 page SLI thread right below your post bud lol. And no ATI has not announced to do anything like SLI.

In short terms, SLI is connecting two video cards togethor (2x6800u) and getting around 1.87x the performance.

so basically this means taht Nvidia is going to own now? I dont like Nvidia tho!?!?! come on ati make something monsterous!

nobody likes fanboys...

It's a new way to rape you outta more cash for top of the line video cards. HAhhahaaaa I can see it now.

"I got DUAL GeForcewhatever or DUAL RADyawns and I get 30,000 3DMarks and I OWN!!!"

Save your money kids. Competition just got really expensive.

SLI stands for scan line interleave; basically it allows 2 cards in one system to only render half of the screen drawn. Result is close to 2x the performance of just one card. And sure its more money to have this setup but its also much faster. And if your like me or many others I know that are not kids but old kids in our 30's that have good jobs this is heaven sent :) Im looking forward to building me a new duel operaton system and 2 6800's in it... should be one bad mofo :)

Just buy two massive LCDs and finally get some use out of the dual DVI connectors. :D

Actualy not the case of the latest Nvidia offering. Quote from the {H} review

NVIDIA SLI Multi-GPU:

Welcome to NVIDIA SLI Multi-GPU technology.

Over ten years ago back in 1993 the only way to get graphics parallelism was in extremely expensive supercomputers, such as the Onyx. Even with all that you still only got the level of graphics you see above; that is SGI’s Performer running on Onyx.

1998 is when 3DFX introduced their Voodoo2 video cards capable of doubling them in order to gain more performance. Their SLI technology is shown above. A ribbon cable was required to connect the two Voodoo2 video cards together, and an external pass-through cable was required as well as a regular 2D graphics card. The games that the Voodoo2 were accelerating fast back there were games such as Quake2 which is also shown above on Voodoo2 SLI.

"Now in 2004 NVIDIA has introduced their new SLI technology, but note that it does not stand for Scan Line Interleaving. This new technology is called "Scalable Link Interface" or SLI for short. Of course all of us old timers still get excited when we hear "SLI" and NVIDIA knows this. The new SLI is possible because of the new PCI-Express bus that was introduced last week. "

3DFX's SLI = Scan Line Interleaving = every other line of the screen is drawn, one card does even lines, the other odd lines

NVIDIA's SLI = Scalable Link Interface = one card renders a portion of the whole screen, the other card does the other portion, NVIDIA has software that determines how much the portion is that is rendered on each card, could be 50/50, could be 70/30 of the screen etc...

Woot! Heh, I've been feeling bugged all day wondering why are they calling it SLI. Somehow missed it stood for something different all the sudden.
