I'm talkin stuff like winrar/zip, adaware, even stuff like winamp that isnt "neccessary", but you know you're gonna want it right away on a new comp.

i wanna make a cd of all these programs so i dont have to download them repeatedly every time i format or build a new computer

i knew you guys would be able to think of some good one :)

thanks in advance,
shock

Media Player Classic
Matroska Pack
Trillian
Opera
Power DVD
Java VM
Macromedia Flash Plugin
Damn NFO Viewer (If you play with Bit Torrent or IRC)
Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4
Real Player
Chipset Drivers, Video Card Drivers
Active Sync (If You Have a PDA)
TweakUI
Task Switcher Power Toy

Kasperksy Personal 4.5 or 5.0
Sygate Pro
Netcaptor or Crazy Browser (tabed browser that is better than Opera/Mozilla and pop-up blocker)
Painshop Pro 7 or Photoshop Elements 2.0 (Photoshop 7 is overkill for non-professionals)
Focal blade filter (best thing since sliced bread)
Ultimate Zip (free and compresses/uncompressions all formats)
Ad-aware 6 (updates frequently
Spybot Search & Destroy (has registry immunizing feature nice)
System Safety Monitor
Windowblinds 4 (must have eyecandy)
iTunes
Kazaa Lite
ACD 6 Viewer (tried free aquivlents and thought they sucked)
JV16 1.3 (last free version)
Norton Ghost
Microsoft Office 2000 (minus Outlook)
Nero

Also, I always move the location of My Documents, address book and mail databases to a 2nd data drive. That way it is on the drive that is used less and less likely to crap out. Plus I don't have to remember back up the files just before a clean install.

Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Thunderbird
Foobar 2000
Avast Antivirus
Kerio 2 firewall
Xvid codec
Exact Audio Copy
LAME

Spybot Search and Destroy
7-zip (ultimate zip annoys me)
Azureus
Putty SSH
TightVNC server/viewer/tools
Microsoft .NET platform
Mono

Everything else (DIrect X, chipset drivers) have already been imaged onto a disc. :)

And no reason to put Office 2003 or Visual Studio .NET 2003 on it when I already have the program cds themselves.

Ad-aware
Adobe Acrobat 5
Ahead Nero
AVG Anti-Virus
BitTornado (BitTorrent Client)
Ogg Direct Show Filter (For OGM files)

Ohhhh, you must have that special edition, right? ;) Sorry for the mixup.......

Norton Ghost is your friend....

All of my computers have Ghost Image DVDs from the first time I installed windows on the box. It has all my favorite apps and updates installed and ready to go. I haven't had to use em yet as I can usually go about a year without a reformat/reinstall. But with DVD-RWs I can re-image the disc and have my computer again upgraded for the next time I use it.

I keep the following:
Trillian
Winamp
Ghost (of course)
Latest Windows updates
Drivers for all hardware
Office

I don't bother imaging game install directories to the disc as I don't even install them on my C: drive.

Are you just wondering what we would want or is this to help you aswell.. because I don't see how it would help you, everyone has their own different programs, ask yourself what do you use/need for your computers and you'll have the answer..

What are your alternatives? Would be nice to find a simple all in one app.

Okay, I LOVE the proposed software/applications that you all have recommended and detailed her, but why the desire for "alternatives" to QuickTime and Real?

Are all the primary suggested applications Free (no bootleg) or are some with a price tag?

Thanks and continue the discussion!

Hhmm. I am not sure about QT because I have no issues with that app but RealOne has always been a real pain in the ass. It constantly is trying to dial back and add itself to the startup list.

+1 for Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative

they're brilliant programs and lose the need for the bloatware they call "Real Player" and "Quicktime Player"...

plus they're spyware free....

as it goes.... this is what I always have....

Winrar
Spybot S&D
Adaware
AVG Personal
Getright
Firefox
Thunderbird
and OpenOffice...

simple eh?
