What does RMA mean

i'm not 100% sure what it stands for...perhaps return merchandise authorization

it means that you need to obtain auhtorization from the manufactuerer to return it. They usually give you a number that you include when you ship the item back to them. This ensures it is under warrenty BEFORE they receive it.

Return Material Authorization. (sp?)

Its a number asigned to you by the company when you are returning something. It just helps them keep track of your return and make sure everything is kosher.

Its also kind of turned into slang for "return it". Aka "This board is shot, I'm going to RMA it."

Sometimes just called "RA" which would just be "Return Authorization"

And for you curious folks.... "RTV" is "Return To Vendor." This is done on the backside after a customer does their RMA. Bigger companies have people that do "RMA" and others that do "RTV" as two seperate departments.
 
Some places call it Return Material Authorization, others call it Return Merchandise Authorization. Either way, it is the same thing, the manufacture authorizes you to return your 'defective' merchandise under warranty, and the RMA# they give you is their way of tracking it.

The people above are right, RMA means Return Material Authorization or Return Merchandise Authorization, those are the two generally accepted meanings. Just like the two generally accpeted meanings of RAID are Redundant Array of Independent Disks and Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks -- either is technically correct, depending on who you ask. :D

That's actually the original one. I'm guessing because at the time, larger hard disks were exponentially mroe expensive than smaller ones.

RTV to me is that silcone stuff we used to seal up shit on our cars, like the rear seal on the china wall of my block that is leaking like a mofo when reving past 5K.

that's not folding, that's just computing. we call it folding because you are simulating the folding of proteins in order to help find cures for disesases. you should really check it out, it's run by stanford and they have already published many papers where they have started to find results. http://folding.stanford.edu
