what does MS reccomend?

i know a little about active directory and was wondering when does Microsoft recommend deploying it? by that i mean how many servers, or end nodes should you have before upgrading switching your workgroups over to AD?

That an open ended question. If you want centeralized managment. you should have AD. if its a microsoft only network with network services you should have AD.

active directory makes anything more than 3 or four computers(clients) much easier to manage, and also provides for scalability.

When you install your server that you wan't to act as a DC. As mentioned, the question is open ended to put it mildly. When do you want AD? When your able to activate and configure it.

sorry bout the open endedness, i thought MS had like a suggestion on when and under what conditions u should go from workgroups to domains. thanks for the replies tho, i appreciate it.
