My mom dropped her external HD today, and now when she turns it on it constantly clicks.. and doesn't work. What does the clicking mean? THANK GOD I had just made a back up for her on my comp the day before.

the arm or whatever its called is just hitting the sides and your harddrive is done, tome to buy a new one.

iha is absolutely right. the heads are hitting the platters when the drive is trying to come out of park, that drive is toast. i would RMA it and whatever you do, don't mention the unfortunate drop. tell them anything else but that.

that's an idea i'll try.. it's a really old drive though.. and I bought it from someone 2nd hand lol

I just bought a new 40 GB WD off newegg 2 days ago though :)

I'll try the RMA thing when I get time, thanks

I can't RMA it b/c it's too old. the Warranty expired 10/18/2004. I guess I'll just throw it away.
