i clicked it and it made the clock speed jump 6 mhz is that all it does or what?
 
ok i did htat but it gave me a mere 6 mhz clock bump wow im just simply amazed lol well thanx any way guys
 
I'm amazed at the ass responses to a simple yet valid question

It's simply a safe overclock that ATI allows that wont invalidate the warrantly. So yea it's only 6 mhz extra, but it's 6mhz freebie.

or you could not act like an ass and just answer the question. Last time i checked this was a videocard forum and that was a videocard related question to which you told him to go someplace else. Egocentric responce.

Maybe he posted his question here as he thought he would get a better 'real world' answer from helpful people who have used overdrive rather than some marketing bumf from ATI's website........though it looks like he mostly got smart arse responses from a bunch of A class retards with superiority complexes

Some people just have something stuck smooth up their ass. If Google was good for everything we would have no need for hardware forums like this. It was a valid and good question. Ease up the puckered bung holes.....

ANNYYYYWAYYYY.....

Overdrive is ATI's automatic overclocking utility that only shows up in the drivers for cards that come with an on-die temperature sensor. It gives you a small bump in speed on the core (not sure about memory) which can fluctuate up and down as long as the temperature probe doesn't report a temperature outside the safe range, at which point the overdrive feature clocks the speed back down to normal.

Anyway, Overdrive is supposed to be ATI's homemade overclocking utility, although I heard it doesn't work well. You'll have to play around ;) More suggested to use RivaTuner or ATi Tool if you want better overclocking. Hope this helps, heh

When I had my 9800Pro, I never bothered using it, figured it's be more problematic than useful.

If you want to overclock your VPU/DDR, use ATI Tool, that'll safely bump up your core/ddr mhz to a suitable and stable setting. Has a stress-test tool to check for artifacts and anomolities.
 
ATI Tray Tools is also a good program which incorporates other little features such as the ability to flash up FPS (ala Fraps) and GPU/CPU temperatures during games every minute or so....good for letting you know if your cards gonna set on fire or not :D

I also find it slightly easier to use than ATITools.

Though If you want an overclocking tool and the full catalyst drivers all in one package i recommend the Omega Drivers. These are tweaked versions of the catalyst drivers which have the authors(?) own version of a CCC (Catalyst Control Center) with them but use less comp resources while having all the functionality. The drivers also come with an intergrated version of ATI Tray Tools. The guy who creates them is actually a ATI Beta driver tester so he knows his stuff and ive found them to be just as good if not better than ATI's own drivers.....
