What does an IPS panel look like?

Stupid question but how exactly does it look like? I've had a TN panel all my life and I am considering getting a IPS panel for better picture quality and colors since I do not play much games anymore but the problem is no B&M sells IPS panel monitors. I have a 40" 1080p Sony HDTV and when I hook up my computer to it, all the colors look gorgeous and vibrant, so I am sure if I upgrade from a TN to IPS, it'll be similar?

This is the only reason why I'm hesitant to order from online since I always like to demo things before I buy.
 
Look for a Panasonic LCD TV in a store. The larger ones should all have IPS Alpha based panels. If anything the colours are better on IPS than the VA panels Sony use. TV's do tend to do stuff like boost the saturation though, to give more "wow" factor. If you like really vibrant colours that "pop" then perhaps a wide gamut IPS display would actually be to your liking more than a standard colour gamut. The main difference on IPS is that there's not quite as much contrast, what with IPS white glow when viewed from an angle etc. But the advantage is more stable/better colours. So, yes, if you switch from TN it will be more similar to your TV
