What does adjusting the Vcore do specifically?

I ask this question because I specifically followed directions from a person on this board to OC my CPU. I got it to 2.5 ghz. But rebooted shortly for no reason.

I did not up the vcore. Could this be why it rebooted so suddenly?
 
Upping the VCore can improve stability at higher clock speeds, however beware, upping the VCore also increases the amount of heat produced by your processor, thus to remain stable at higher VCore and clock speeds, would necessitate better cooling. Overclocking and upping the VCore means you have to watch your CPU's temperature to make sure its below 60 degrees celsius.

Well, you were correct. Once I upped the vcore, the machine quit rebooting. :)

The VCore provides more voltage to the CPU core.

Increasing it can stabilitze a Machine. Espically if its OC'd
