What does a KVM switch require on the PC?

Oh wait, yeah you're right :p

I should have used more logic to deduce this one.

Thanks! :)

some USB KVM's have switching software, but for the PS2 units you don't need jack....the KVM intercepts your keystrokes allowing you to use a hotkey to switch machines.

you can always try a software solution to share you keyboard and mouse over a secure home LAN

http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ works great for me (I own a hardware KVM too) and it's free
Synergy isn't really a suitable replacement for a KVM switch since it requires each system to have its own display. It's quite an interesting idea, though.

Ah, I'm so busy I completely forgot about that little fact. :p Thanks for pointing that out. The whole reason I use Synergy is to use an extra 15" LCD with another computer.
