Well, it's tough to find reviews of the X1600pro. Nobody seems to want to devote an entire article to that card.

Anyways, I did read in one review that the card scores about 39fps in FEAR at 1024x768 at high details, so you can probably be assured of at least 1024x768 in any game available today. In newer games, though, I would start getting used to the idea of gaming at 800x600.

You might want to look for something with a little more power if you want fairly high end performance.

A 7800GT would be better performance than either a X1600PRO or X1600XT, but I would personally go for an X1600XT myself (good deal cheaper).

Here's about what they score at in 3dMark 2005 (not '06):
X1600PRO: ~4500
X1600XT: ~5000
7800GT: ~7000

Of course these are rough estimates... and it does depend on the processor (not too much though ;))

X1600XT 5600 single card and crossfire X1600XT 8105 on my Pentium D 820 by no means a high end gaming chip

In 3dmark 06 2600 single card and crossfire 4518

I never claimed a X1600XT was "high-end." It's what it is: mid-range for a good price.

Also, at this point, 2600 in 3DMark 2006 will still play games like FEAR fine w/ full settings at 1280x1024... so it's not like you need a whole lot more these days anyway unless you've got a really expensive monitor and need to match its native resolution.

I got 2100 in 3DMark 2006 and wouldn't consider my computer dated...
