I bought this antivirus about a week ago (Internet Security Suite 6.0) and I had nothing but problems with the AV part of it it keeps telling me in my index that is at 4.6% and that I need to update my AV, which I've done several times. Can anyone that has been through this and able to fixed the problem help me, 'cause the people from Mcafee can't help and I'm not the only one with this situation and I'm starting to regret buying this program

our school gave us all a copy of McAffe when we moved into our dorms. and they require us to install it before we can access the internet from our rooms (trust me i tried going on the intenet before installing it and got a lovely error message) so i installed it and the internet worked fine, but i hated all of the security pop ups and the personal firewall BS. I went and talked to the network admin to see if there was any way that i could use the internet withough having crapaffe installed. he said the only way that i could do this is if i ran linux.

needless to say i installed suse 9.1pro that night, and now i use that as my main desktop environment and only boot up xp pro for games.

kind of a random story, but i just dont like AV software. it is all too bloated and uses too many system resources.

Our work makes us use Mcafee. I think it sucks. We still get infected, and our def are keeped up to day. You know it really sucks when you uninstall it and install AVG or NOD32, and do a scan and find a few trojans/worms/viruses still on the computer. What gives, plus it is almost a big resource hog as norton...

How is it working for you? and I'm going to need some insight using linux :D

I personally don't like McAfee that much, doesn't seem to get everything on an infected computer. Norton I think was a better performer in that regard, but Norton is a resource hog.

I use AVG and online scans now when I'm in Windows, in Linux I use ClamAV (which is pretty nice). I'm in Linux about 99% of the time, only in Windows when I have to help people with Windows-type things or I'm working on C#.

Not much. It eats up a lot of space and resources. Everytime I tried it, it was buggy.

suse 9.1 is AWESOME. it came on one dvd and when i installed everything was extremely easy, and i did not have to do anything to my windows install. it automatically resized to windows partition to the size that i specified and did everything else on its own. all i had to do was make a few very simple options, alot like installine windows xp.

the interface is sweet, and everything runs really fast and smooth, i highly recomend giving it a try.

That's pretty much what I told them in '98, or '99, when I demanded my money back. I got a VISA credit, if I remember correctly. You can contest the charge if you paid by credit card, if they won't refund your money.

I heard that this OS is free, is that true? or that you can buy it very cheap! Because right now I'm cosidering this or have another computer that I was going to sell to use it just for internet that has win98 and for the 5 yrs that I used it never had any problems with viruses.

yeah, it is free

goto to http://distrowatch.com/ and every OS ont hat site is freee. there are tons of other "distrubutions" or versions of linux and each has its own benifits and drawbacks. i think that SUSE is a very good, well rounded version for beginners and experienced users alike. if you need any help getting a cd/dvd send me a pm and i can help your out :)

I had Mcafee on a Win98 laptop once, and that was enough....Don't think I'll look that way again. When programs mess with OS, it's a bad sign which may take years to go away...All current staff on pension....so take your guess!

I have not had much trouble with McAfee 7, but the newest version is absolute crap. Norton is NOT an reasonable alternative either, in my opinion. It's a huge system hog and it's detection rate is quite a bit lower than McAfee's if you google around a bit and find some reviews. Personally, I am using the free AV Antivir, right now. I'm just testing it out still, but so far it seems pretty good (provided you know what you're doing).

Since McAfee and Norton both suck in my opinion, I'd check out something like Kaspersky or NOD32.

That is what I'm planning on doing, getting a free AV. Let me know how do you like it.

I've been using antivir for about 2 weeks now and I really like it. It's easy on your system resources and has caught everything McAfee or Norton would have. Actually, I installed it on a customer's computer and had it remove 330 copies of bagle after both Norton and McAfee were unable to load due to the infection.

My Review of It

this sums up my opinion of it
First of all I returned the software(thank God) and read your review and right there at the store decided to go with the Panda software, which I should of bought from the start since that was the one they recommended at first but since I never heard of it, I was not to sure about it. So far the new program works fine the updates are a breeze and it is very easy to use and gives a list of all the virus like norton does. I will keep everybody posted on this Panda software, if somebody has used this program and has any input share it so everybody can benefit from it. ;)

I had Mcafee, It expired or somethin so now I use Antivir Professional (got free froma cd)

AVG 6.0 , EzTech AntiVirus, a2 trojan clean, adaware, spybot seek and desktroy, eztech firewall,mcafeefirewall,sp2firewall, super add blocker, Kerio I use too but very annoying so I get rid of that when i boot up.... only taking up 2% of the PSU isnt bad only run them when I need them firewalls on 24/7 with eztech av and I have not had a virus sense.... a lil ove rprotective maybe but I'm clean and no downgrade in proformance and I also have a file cleaner for unessecary files... :D

Uh... how did you know C# was called C sharp if you never heard of it?

Anyways, yeah i agree it seems McAfee and Norton are both big fat pigs. I been messing with Trend-Micro's PC-Cillin and it seems smoother. I also somewhat like that while it's dwarfed in popularity by the two piglets, it's still up there and common. It's not from some small company I never heard of. Hope the catch rate is top notch. Any insite I would appreciate.
