Hi all,

Just curious as to exactly what do you store, keep, save on your HDDs?
With huge HDDs from 500gb-3TB and low prices, do you go for bigger sizes, or smaller but more HDDs for back-up copies.

I cant even fill up a 500GB; I've got music, thousands of photos, videos, copies of personal IDs and records, and still have 200GB left. I dont even bother using Winzip; if I do, I use store instead of best compression.

What's occupies the most space in my drives is my MSDN softwares and music. I rip every CDs I have in my HDDs in WAV lossless. So it takes about 500 GB only in music. I also have a couple of virtual machines drives and drive image backup, game installations files, 30 GB of digital photos... My "Studies" folder takes 100 GB...

That's how I got a 2 TB drive full of data.

On our main home server it's 5-6TB of photos taken by us, ~1TB of business data, 500GB of music ripped from CDs, ~2TB of BluRay/DVD rips and about 4TB of data backed up from various other servers we have.

14TB out of 15TB (6*2TB + 1*3TB in a WHS box) of my personal DVDs and BluRays... that way, I won't scratch the disks :D

Our business data is about 50GB. We must have about 3TB of backup data on site. 8TB of backup data off site.

8TB of DVDs. 8TB of TV. 16TB of empty.

200GB of personal photos and data.

Music 10 GB
Games 5/6 GB, Software 100 GB
Family Picture 1 TB, Movie 2 TB (Torrent file)
Monthly Backup of my C drive 500 GB
Ebook near about 1 TB

Hundreds of Blu-Ray isos, DVD isos, 3TB of flac music... Everything 1:1 backed up.

Other hdd's.....ram sticks.... Keyboard.... Screws... Ashtray...

Other shit laying around the desk

:D

Professional photographs, with raws, plus edited files thereof.

Videos of photoshoots (so that you can later reconstruct what kind of lighting you used).

Swapout from Tivo.

Audio recordings (my own), in pcm format.

Wipes out space pretty good. Airshows or weddings have thousands of photos, with a 5d2 raw that goes pop pop pop.

You guys are funny!

I just have a copy of the internet laying around, in case it goes down.

Yeah I forgot. I also have to cache Blu Ray movies that I legally own on optical media to disk because that's the only way to watch them on Linux. Didn't even try FreeBSD. There's some funky way to go through a http server but I don't know how much trouble that will give me. So there's nice chunky 40 GB directories there. Oh yeah and I also have HD-DVDs and since I legally own them and I'm pissed about this little fiasco I certainly not gonna re-buy them as BRs.

Got any Laserdiscs lying around? Nope, no need to get them on BRs.
Ifcourse, anyone owning Beta movies wont re-stock 'em in VHS format.
And 8-track owners dont need to get no CDs.

I'm not giving the bastard movie companies my money for the movies three times. DVD and HD-DVD, okish. Now they want the money again for Blu Ray, although they did no work between HD-DVD and BR exact maybe screw up the white balance some more? Not gonna happen.
