I have this brand new cooler master praetorian, that I thought I may warm up to it upon receiving it from newegg.
I was wrong. Dead wrong.

This case is the ugliest sad sack of shit I have ever seen.

But it makes for a good start for modding :)
Some ideas that I had for it were adding a door, a neat window... maybe a character lcd....
but the main thing that really wrinkles my pajamas is the floppy bays... what can I put there that IS NOT an lcd?

Then I think that it looks damn nice...I prefer a clean look, its not as clean as a Lian Li
but it is very nice. But it I was going to perform a mod on this case then I would try and
use a repeating opaint scheme...or I would do away with the brushed aluminum look and
give it a mirror like paint coating.

does ti matter any more? no, he has it so lets help him mod it.... i would open up that front intake s ome more....hide that rectangular thing to the left of the intake( maybe it's a usb/firewire/audio thing...but get rid of it :)) make a couple blow holes, one on top, one on side...and if you're a window person, put a window on the top or side...then paint it sexily(if the black isn't cutting it as it is) and voila... turn what you think is an ugly case, into a sexy one :)
 
That case isn't that ugly, but a little paint would go a loooong way on it. Paint it. Make a window. Blowholes. All that good stuff. It'll be a happy case, I promise.
 
im his friend in r/l... he built his pc but i did as5 on it.. i think his case looks really good but he insists its a ugly pice of shit and insists its the worst case ever made
 
You think the Praetorian's ugly? :confused: Hell if you don't like the case that much I'll take it, hehe. :)

Well since you have the case, that can't be helped. Maybe if you tell us more about why you don't like the case then we could give you some better feedback.

I needed a case to go with my system... and what choices are there?
Lian-Li's are just plain not my type...
The case industry is rather blah at the moment, I wish I had access to machinery so I could design a decent one.

I believe that we are both missing something here. I have the model 201C-SK2, and it is the best case I've ever used. It is in the more phallic silver color.:p
Word usage aside, maybe he doesn't like cases that exhibit good taste, who knows?...no pun intended.
Anyway, mine has been modded a bit...more for better cooling than anything else.

i overtightened his thumb screws with a wrench today hehe :D

If having no door is the real issue, I have a brand new GMC Trinity in the box that I'll swap him for it. That'll fix his problem.
 
I'm stunned. The Praetorian, especially in black, is one of the best looking cases on the market right now in my opinion.

If you need ideas for mods, look through the gallery. Read some threads. www.coolcasegallery.net is good. Use the search. Better yet, use your imagination.

I've used my imagine plenty of times, yet the pure ugly that emanates from the front of this case leads me into depression, it's just that bad. Also, the CCG has been perused several times, and little, if any, originality exists outside of the "switchbus, lcd, stealthed floppy" realm.

So, you want someone else to tell you what to do? I think you may have been better off getting this case.
 
Personally I'm not a huge fan of it either. I don't like the look of the front panel with the way it's layed out.

Then what do you want us to do about it lol? Tell us WHY its so ugly to you and we'll try to help you out with some ideas, all you've done is complained about it being ugly, but like we need to know WHY you think its ugly so we know what you like in design lol
 
OK, since you don't want to trade it for my Trinity, I'll offer my observations. ;)

1) The fans suck...or actually they don't. Anyway, they are quiet, but they don't move air.
2) The grills are the most restrictive ever.
3) The filters are not easily removed for cleaning. By the way, Coolermaster put a filter on the top exhaust. That's pretty lame, especially when you consider points one and two.
4) The case would look better if it had some contrast.
5) The front panel USB and stuff...do you need it?

Had you traded it to me for the Trinity, I would...

1) Toss the fans, and get some that move air. My choice? 50cfm Sunons.
2) Toss the grills, and replace them with modder's mesh...honeycomb modder's mesh to be specific.
3) Toss the filters. Who needs 'em?
4) Add a window and light. The case will hold only one 12" cold cathode, but that's enough for me.
5) Put the light switch behind the little door.
6) Mod a baybus to fill a slot.
7) Actually install a floppy drive.
8) Fill the other floppy slot with plexiglass to match the modded baybus.
9) Install a pair of burners, and a soundcard that has a useful breakout box for the other front panel slot.

At least that's what I did to my CM...

points for the interior and lettering.

1.) The fans in it are rather loud, I already replaced them
2.) not too restrictive, after you remove the filters
3.) took all filters out ;)
4.) oh, I definately have some ideas for contrast :)
5.) I already removed it for cleaner wiring

I like alot of your ideas... some may be incorporated

Also, a window can be nice without being elaborate. I rabbeted mine on the backside, so that it would fit flush with the outside of the panel.

Sorry, it's called "trying to help." How about you link us to something that you find remotely interesting. A mod that you don't think looks like a sad sack of shit or something from the usual "switchbus, lcd, stealthed floppy" realm. If you give us no information, then it's hard for us to give you ideas, even though I think that's the wrong approach altogether.

i love mine, there is nothing in it, but i cant get my self to part with it; its just so smooth and sexy looking.

maybe i will build a new webserver in it after college or something. it is such a nice case..


i love all the coolermaster cases, so if you dont like the one your BOUGHT i would be happy to take it off your hands for $25 shipped :)

Right. I was just thinking... You know, it isn't the idea so much as it is the execution of the idea. A lot of people have good ideas, but the trick is in pulling them off in a way that looks nice. Maybe he wants a radical idea, but would he really like a case that is slick down to the last detail? I think almost anyone would appreciate that. I try at it with the more conservative mods that I do, but it is much more difficult to acheive than it would first appear. You know the saying, "The devil is in the details."

i like the new swiss cheese lian li cases... but im not sure they're my fave. I'll have to think about it and look and see if there's a case i really love.

I'm happy with my antec case but there's plenty of improvements that could be made.
