i just got a e6850 and im wonder whats the best to monitor the temp of it as i will be overclocking soon.

27C and 24C are the core temps are they good. and whats the stock vcore for them becuase mine was set to auto but then i didnt know what to put it on now its 1.325 is that good enough for prob goin up to 3.4 tomorrow?

Although I do not own an E6850 bear in mind that coretemp was largerly inaccurate with those new CPUs (GO stepping) to the extend of reporting sub ambient temps which is ofc way off. So check for a newer version if out that is more accurate. Other than that this util is one of the best.

the lack of accuracy at ambient afflicts all temp measuring software i'm aware of, lots of threads here go into detail about that

doesn't matter much to me what the proc temp is at idle, the temp that matters is o/c'd while stressed running orthos

perhaps unclewebb will be along shortly and he'll hit the high points on this never ending discussion about how many C's can dance on the head of a pin

meanwhile, temps that don't throttle, work

sure, folks will be along shortly that will moan and groan about shortening the life of this, that, and the other thing, ignore them, fact is, no one paying attention to the trends in price/perf on procs cares if they shorten the life of their proc from decades to years, they're replacing it w/ something cheaper and faster in a year or two anyway (if they weren't, they wouldn't be reading this forum)

bottom line, crank up your FSB and see where it goes, give it some V's to help the journey along when things get unstable, from a temp standpoint, any air cooler talked about regularly in this forum will cool your proc better than it will O/C

take mine for example, and of course this is strictly luck of the draw, i can't get it past 3.4 completely stable, doesn't matter what i throw at it, and the temps i get running orthos for 24hrs never go past 61C, that is MILES away from throttling, so honestly, who gives a flying burrito whether my temps at 3.4 are 51, 55, or 65, none of those would be 20 degrees w/in throttle range

way, way too much worrying going on around here about temperatures, but yet it's still lots of fun to do anyway

I wouldnt use coretemp. At least not the newest version. Many people are reporting problems of it rebooting their C2D rigs when you fire up the program. I was having this problem too. I used to have both Speedfan and Coretemp installed they they both report the same temps. So now I just use Speedfan cause it doesnt crash my system.
