I know I made a thread about this not to long ago, but I need a Checklist.

This is an example of what I want to do.

if you want to make your white case become black...i suggest saving up 50 dollars and buying another one in black heh
 
The thing is, I plan on selling this case. It's scratched to rat shit, so I don't think it'll go anywhere else looking like that.
 
Sand Paper
I'd get 4 different grits. 180 to rough up your metal to allow the primer to bond. 500 or 600 to smooth out after the 180, then finish up with 800. Water sand the primer with 1000 grit.

Sandling Block
Use it. Period.

Primer and Paint
Automotive primer with scratch fillers work very well in my experience. Wetsand with 1000 grit in between coats. I'd apply a few coats, depending on what you want to achieve. Same for the paint. Automotive all the way.

Would it be possible to use an electric sander?
 
i was actually doing a little work today.
Go to a CAP or some auto part store. They'll mosdef have an auto paint area. Buy a primer and the color you want. ALSO, check whether the paint you use needs a clear coat. They should have packages of sheets of sand paper there. I bought this variety pack that had like 4 sheets from 200-1000 or something like that.
as for sanding, electric sanders are great, but if you've got contours like you've got there, you're going toh ave to do a little hand sanding too
 
I read in another tutorial that you don't want to get rid of the powder coating (The stuff that makes the case bumpy). Is this true?
 
powder coating is just an electrostaticly applied paint. Go ahead and strip it down to bare metal, it won't hurt anything.
