I have an older Gateway GT5040 Desktop with VGA connection. I'm looking to purchase a tv for my small home office. I would like to be able to switch between the tv and the desktop (internet) without having to unhook cables and such. I don't have a sattelite so I'm only interested in watching local channels.

This would be simple if my video card on my desktop had a HDMI connection but it doesn't.

My question is:

1) Would it be advisable for switching a video card on an older desktop to be able to accomplish this.

or

2) Would a VGA connection give me enough quality to be able to watch tv.

3) If I go with the second route is there some kind of switch or such that would allow me to switch between the tv and internet without unhooking cables.

or

4) If I go with the first choice how hard is it to change out the video card and how do I find exactly what I need or if it would fit my desktop.

* I apologize I'm not to technical when it comes to building or switching out components on a pc. I'm willing to follow directions and take advice, hopefully learn. I'm trying to hook the above setup until I can send my LCD computer monitor back for repair work.

Also I'm looking for a decent LED tv 32" and under that would work with my desktop setup. If anyone has any recommendations, again I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

If all you want to do is watch TV and then flip to your computer to browse the internet, just get a TV that has a VGA input. Then you can switch between the VGA input and the antenna input or HDMI input (cablebox).
