Hey everyone!
I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I was planning on upgrading my gaming computer in this upcoming month to an AMD fx -6300 CPU and a AMD radeon 7850. However, with these new rumors floating around of a new xbox 720 and ps4, i am afraid that my rig will be completely outdated by next year. It looks like these systems will be running an 8 core processor compared to my 6 core. If you were in my shoes, would you wait until the new consoles come out and see what kind of new pc hardware gets released or is it safe to upgrade now? I realize technology gets updated very quickly, but im afraid that AMD and Nvidia are holding back because of old consoles and a new console release would massively push game requirements resulting in more power... i fear what poor optimization and next gen graphics can do to a current pc. Thanks!
 
Why exactly would you get a 6 core processor? Games hardly use 4 as it is. If you're strapped for money, might as well wait till the 20th of this month when Sony will supposedly announce the PS4.

I feel games will no longer be as heavily cpu bound. When games start to use 6 cores ill have something ready.

When that happens, your 6 core will be out of date.. And arguably it already is out of date, or at least not future-proof in anyway considering other current processors out preform it.
 
I think the 6-8 core systems are because they will be using 1-2 of those cores as dedicated Kinnect cores, they won't be used the way you are thinking they will be I suspect.
Plus, one of the last rumors I read was that they will be 8 cores at 1.8 GHz, not really a powerhouse in any sense :p
I'd wait on the upgrade, you won't see the consoles, if they do at all, effecting us for at least two years.
