What do game programmers prefer ATI or Nv?

thats not exactly run by a big company development wise. Believe me i'v had my times with games like that too such as wwiionline, when someone asks for a recomendation its Nvidia over everything because of openGL. But its not because of the implimentation on ATI's part, its more on the laziness to make it work correctly on more then one type of card. You simply cannot have 2 seperate companies making their cores work the same way, whether its DX or OpenGL. Things will always differ and especially in drivers. So companies (especially small budget or privatly owned ones) like to keep things as simplistic as they can. ATI's OpenGL is actually good, Nvidia's just happens to be a bit better and even thats arguable.

Sorry... my intensions were not to start a flame war... :S

Anyways... ur right i forgot Intel... they hold the largest market entry level...
But as for ATi, their x800 vanilla is selling like cupcakes on a saturday by hungry kids! ;)

Its afew bucks more expensive than the 6600GT and cheaper than the 6800 vanilla... yet it outperforms both...

Anyways... interms of programing... it depends whether the game uses DirectX or OpenGL...
The game developers of HL2 perfered ATi (they were bought)...
the game developers of Doom3 perfered NVidia (they were bought too) ;)

Its kinda like saying is Arrowhead water better or Aquafina... ;)
both get the job done.. :)

come again!? x800 vanilla is a late commer and NV has 6800 vanilla to counter that card and the x800gt. Even ATI themselves admitted they lost the mainstream market to NV.
