What Disk Defragmenter do you use?

I am using the Windows XP included defragmenter but I was wondering if there is a better solution.

I was looking at Diskeeper but im not sure if I like the idea of an automatic defragmenter. It means having another program running all the time.

Any suggestions?

there is no need to get a different defragmentor they are all just about the same. i have been using the windows xp defrag since i have had xp. it works great. just stick with the xp defrag

if ne1 can proove me wrong by all means go ahead. this guy deserves the right info if im not giving it to him (if thats what you think)

XP defrag is a wittled down version of Diskeeper
without the advanced features

O&O Defrag also has the adavnced features
both are good defrag programs,
and you dont have to set them to automatic

a few of best features
allows you to defrag locked files at boot, the registry hive, the Master File table ect
allows different types of defrag, which can be very helpful to your access performance depending on the type of data for a given partition, defrag by complete NAME, DATE, or last ACCESS
defrag multiple partitions concurrently

some people swear by Diskeeper, some by O&O
very few ever go back to the XP defrag program
do you absolutely need it, no
I can show you freeware that will eventually accomplish the primary optimizations that you can easily get with either
but youll invest alot of time getting there

PageDefrag v2.21 (freeware)

Contig v1.41 (freeware)

and of course a good Partitioning Strategy which will benefit you for whatever defrag you use
(& an Advanced Partition Strategy warning there are several drawbacks to this strategy)
