okay every time i install a soundcard that handles 5.1 ( i have 2.1 on mobo ) i disable my onboard first then i put the card into pci slot, ( which i no works cuz i used to have a diff card that worked perfectly their) and let windows look up card and point it to installation cd , get it installed and then hook up speakers, then for some reoson the speakers don't work or always give like this buzzing sound like a big beep , okay anyone no what i could be doing wrong i have tried this with a sb live 5.1 and mad dog 5.1 soundcards both got same basic results anyone no???
 
the buzz is interference (sp?). the wires are picking up radiowaves because they're not shielded. i dont know why they wouldnt be working though
 
It reminds me of a time a friend of mine installed her first video card. Going from onboard video, she had installed the card correctly, even remembering to plug in the power cable into the card. However, there was no video when she turned on the PC! Come to find out, even though she installed the card correctly, she plugged the monitor into the onboard video D-sub...

Anyway, in relevance to your story, did you make sure you plugged the speakers into the new card instead of accidentally into the onboard?
 
Here's my question for you bud. How exactly did you disable your onboard audio? In windows or in your bios ?

Hehe np, just curious if he just disabled it in windows and not in the bios. Bios will totally kick it out of service! :)
