I have a cpu here that I dont know the core. 3.2 ghz 512 cache 800mhz fsb SL6WG Malaysia L336B145

I believe it is a Northwood, but want to be certain. If so how succesful are these cpu's clock. I currently have my 2.4 at 3.4, on custom wawa. If I could get this to like 3.6 or 3.8 I might swap it. What do yall think?

SL6WG
You are correct its a Northwood. All 478 P4 with 512KB L2 are Northwoods.
Malaysa is one of the best Fabs for this chip.
Its the D1 Stepping. Which should overclock VERY well.

The processor in my sig is a D1 Stepping 3.0C

My guess is anywhere from 3.6 - 4.0+ depending on your other hardware.
Just be aware that you arent going be to running the 283 FSB that you have on your 2.4

LOL.....yah but wouldnt it be sweet. Oh well, thanks for the confirmation. I am going to test this bad boy out tonight and I will post back with my results. I have an Asus p4p800 deluxe 2X512mb of pc4000 ram that OC real well. I have had is running 290fsb 1:1. I am going to benchmark with this cpu, should see good scores with my X800XT PE. my cooling is dtek whitewater, and vga blocks Via Aqua pump, and black ice dual 120mm radiator.

Hmm I might think about switching MB's. My damn Max 3 is the only thing holding my processor back. I am damn sure this thing will do more.

Well I managed to keep it running at 3.82. I was running 3.86 for awhile but backed it down. I dont have any benchies right now because I just wanted to see what it was capable of first. However, I did play Counter Strike source for about 45min which should have given it a good run. I got it to the XP loading screen at 3.9 but no luck. If I had a better board and tuned up my wawa system it might have a chance.

1.6V after that is doesnt want to run much at all. Temps are good and it seems like it would do more. What is the max volts for this cpu anyway? I know I was running my 2.4 at like 1.65 at least.

typically SNDS will set it at or beyond 1.75v

SNDS= Sudden northwood death syndrome... ie, itll be runinng great, and one day, it just wont boot. at all.

Hmmmm....maybe i will try a little more volts....the cpu was free and I can always get another one. No worries.

I have found that without extreme cooling, your max overclock starts going down on this core with the more you put it over 1.65ish.

Well, I managed to keep messing with it and and it was booting at like 3.88 and then it crashed and I lost windows. Hahahaha.....I guess I can start completely over now. I also might try flashing my bios seeing as I have to reformat and delet my raid partionsa anyways. This way I can just start from scratch. I am also think about getting the P4C800 E Deluxe. I am not sure if the gains will be worth it though.
