So i just started using newsgroups and have a video i want to watch which i downloaded, unrared and what not, but when i open it it says i need 1 or more codecs to view the video. this is what the file name says, maybe it will help.

What player are you using? I'm not sure about the video you mentioned, but the VLC media player has played everything I've thrown at it without a hitch, without having to download any extra codecs and such.

Go to www.filesharingplace.com and get the Mega Codec pack. It is the most complete codec pack available to my knowledge and extremely convenient. It is updated fairly regularly. You can also check it out at www.betanews.com

i downloaded that, and got the video ive been trying to get to work (not trying to threadjack)

but it only plays 1 second of it, its a 48 mb avi, and it shows 1 minute play time in WMP10, but only 1 second on WMPclasic?

any way to make it play the whole thing?

I second that.

Judging by the name it's a VCD. VLC reads it right off the file. Or you could try using PowerDVD, but you'd have to mount the image or burn it on CD.

It's a SuperVCD. Install mpeg2 codec or play with a software DVD Player.

If it is a VCD or SVCD as suggested, you can simply open the .dat file from within WMP. Be mindful that when installing the codec pack it doesn't install all the codecs by default. You have to manually choose to install them when installing the pack.
