What chipset does ESXi 5 emulate?

according to cpuz run on a win2008r2 guest, its still the 440BX

How do people get it for free? I saw the 60 day trial but I don't want to re register and re install every 60 days

Get what for free? ESXi? Just sign up for a VMWare account and then request access to it from its product page.

Yeah, that's what I see too. What hardware version are you on for that guest, on version 8 for me it shows the socket as LGA 775, but that could be based on the fact that the cluster is in EVC Mode for Penryn, wonder if it changes if you're in Nehalem or Westmere mode.

440BX always for the chipset (as it didn't have "limits" on what it could talk to, or bus speed, actually). That's why everyone in the world emulates it :)

However, it can't make your server sing "my little pony". The right chipset (with sound card attached) address that deficiency...
