What causes graphic artifacts.

I just recently built a new system:
gigabyte p43 ds3l
intel e7200
palit 4850
Antec Earthwatts 550
OCZ 4gb

Whenever I play games I keep getting artifacts. I RMAed the video card thinking that was it, but problem still persists. I then RMAed the mobo and still the same problem. Can either the ram or cpu cause artifacts?
 
What are you doing that is causing artifacts?
What monitor?
Overheating is usually a number #1 cause
 
Have you checked to see how got your card is getting?

Does your case have decent airflow?

Have you adjusted the fan speed of the GPU to lower temp, via Cat. 8.10?
 
I don't think heat is whats causing it since I'm already getting artifacts a few seconds into the games (wow cod4) start. The temperature at that time is around 33-35C. Ive been tracking the temperature with GPUZ and the highest its ever gotten is 43C. I also manually set the fan at 60%.

I've also tried using 2 different monitors to no avail and tried using both dvi input. The only thing I have yet to try is to try out a new PSU. The antec came with 2 pci-e power cable and I've also tried both of those out.

I'm currently running the newest catalyst drivers and latest bios for my mobo.
 
Artifacts are caused by errors in the graphics pipeline. The main reason would be an overheating GPU, followed by a bad memory chip. Other reasons could be a funky PCI-E lane - bad northbridge (or whatever runs the PCI-E bus), or a bad main memory chip (after all - gfx data is sent to the PCI-E bus from main memory.)

If I were you I'd try a different memory chip before a PSU.
