What Case/Mobo/PSU do I get?

bit of everything. i'm already decided on the gpu,cpu, and ram though.

h77 is the latest performance-oriented right? z77 is just SLI right?

on a desk... discrete, light, durable

9. How comfortable are you with custom case design/modification and electrical wiring?
I'd prefer a pre-made case. no internal storage, so, one that isn't made for five drives. need an optical drive though.

10. How important is the noise/silence of this system?
not important

11. How mobile does this system need to be?
small as possible

12. Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
yes

13. When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

need advice on a mobo, psu and chassis. had bad experiences with asus. great experiences with gigabyte.

regarding a case, I imagine the chassis selection will be strictly limited to ones that can accommodate an adequate psu. is there anything simple and sturdy besides lian li and fractal? i've looked at all the offerings on newegg. didn't know if there were some places that made built-to-order cases from aluminum/steel. thanks.

You need z77 to properly overclock that i7-3770k. If you don't want Asus then the Asrock Z77E-ITX is fine. And if "small as possible" is really the criteria then FT03-mini or SG07 are probably ideal. Ivy Bridge and Kepler don't need much power, so 450W or 600W is plenty.

If you like fast boot times and are wanting to do ITX, go with the ASRock, it has way faster boot times than the ASUS ITX Z77 board, plus it's cheaper

To bring more clarification to the chipset (eg. H77 vs Z77), H77 is meant to target more of the basic user or home theatre pc whilst the Z77 is meant to target the more high performance market, gaming, oc'n etc.

I'll throw out a recommendation on your video card since you didn't specify the exact model, shell out a couple extra bucks (since your budget is flexible) for the GTX 670 4GB version, you'll have a more future proofed video card for games coming out in the future that will be loaded up with more textures.

Also the GTX 670 is capable of running high resolutions and multiple screens from a single card so the extra ram will take you pretty far in these areas as well.

I just purchased the Cooler Master Elite 120 case I'm using for a mod build and it is a very capable cheap case with room for huge graphics cards and a full ATX power supply, it's slightly restrictive in cpu coolers as the psu is on top of the cpu area however you have 68-70mm of clearance (cm site says 65mm but they're giving headroom for more airflow).

If you're going to overclock you will undoubtedly want a cool cpu so the Cooler Master Elite 120 might not be a good choice for you, I'd go a tad bigger on the case so you can fit in either a tall air cooler or a all-in-one liquid cool based off of the asetek product (Corsair h60, Antec 620 etc).

WiSK made a fine recommendation with the SG07, an SG05-450 would be a great case for your needs also and it's a tad bit smaller, keep in mind the silverstone cases will be somewhat more expensive than cheaper models and usually will require a slim dvd/cd drive with adapter, but they make very good quality cases.

If you did need to save some cash I'd say knock the cpu down to the 3570k, most people don't need the intel hyperthreading and a lot of games today don't benefit "too much" from the extra threads, but if budget isn't a problem and you can cool it go all out!
