I don't know what card to get. For my system i don't want over kill but i still want some power. Well i was thinking of a ati 9800 XT or a overclock pro.

The specs,

AMD Duron 1.8GHz 266fsb
Syntax SV266AD Motherboard
Can't say yet what memory coz i'm buying new memory. 512mb ddr thats all i can say.

Any more specs you need please say so.

Edit,

And if i get the card can i play games like unreal 04 and halo? I know doom III and half life 2 theres no chance.

If you don't mind used, I think the best match for your system might be a cheap BBATI 9700 Pro off eBay. The price should max out at $100 (lower, if you're patient) and should even be able to run HL2 and Doom 3, at lower settings, of course, depending on the performance of your processor. And the nice thing is that thanks to ATI's generously non-strict warranty policy, you should be able to get service on it if it breaks.

If you want even cheaper, hard to beat a quality Ti4200 (can be had for like $40 on eBay) which will even run Doom 3 if you set the settings right. ;) To me, those are the best bang for the buck budget cards. A Ti4200 will handle UT2004 without difficulty.

Well i love ebay lol. And i'm going to have about 125$/150$.

You'll be able to run hl2 just fine with a 9700pro. Won't be cranked graphics, but it'll still look good and run at 50+ fps. I played through the entire game on a GF4 Ti 4200.....*sniffle*...i'm so proud of my little guy...*tear*

What about the Duron 1.8? That won't Fme over to bad well it?

True. I ran HL2 at 10x7 High settings with no AA/AF on my 9700 pro and it was pretty smooth. Of course I had 1gig 'o ram and my AXP 1700+ oc'd to 2.3 Ghz at the time so I'm sure that helped..... :)

ill sell you my BFG Ti4200 128 mb

i ran hl2 and doom3 with it no problems

pm me if interested

The duron 1.8 will definatley hurt, especially in HL2 and CS:S.

Well i never sed i wanted to play those games. I want to play doom III and halo And unreal 03/04.

And thanks but no thanks dude :) :(

you might look into a geforce 6600 GT 128 meg for 171 off pricewatch.com

if that is too much you might look into a 6600 256 meg for 109 (its slower than the gt.. thus the price)

i dont know how fast a regular 6600 is compared to a 9700.. but i know it supports more features like pixel shader 3.0.

a 6600gt however will beat a 9700-9800 card.

But that 1.8 is not to slow for those cards.

Your processor may hold you back. A 4200ti will play ET just fine. (That's what I played on for 6 months or so). You may want to wipe out the old drivers before installing new ones. There are several programs for removing the old drivers....check out www.guru3d.com.

Ya when i install all my allmost new stuff i'm going to reinstall anyway.
And what about the GeForceFX 5900XT it looks like a good card?

At work I run a 5900 and play ET. (I'm self employed). If you can get one for a good price it should work just fine, just be sure to wipe the old drivers.

Well i'm going to a puter trade show on the 16th lol so i think i can find all of these cards :D . So last chance i don't want nothing just what card you think i should get i want a 5900 but please post.

Thank you for all your help guys you people ARE [H].

a 6600 GT would be much better than a 5900 as the 6600 is more powerful and has more features like directx 9.0c support and pixel shader 3.0.

so for a card that you are going to keep for a while (over a year..) id go w/ the 6600gt.

just my opinion.

yes, we are [H]ard!! thank you.

That card may be a little much for his system, and it would cost 2 to 3 times more.

If I were in your situation, I'd try and figure out what kind of games you're going to be playing, and go from there. If you're planning on playing DX games, then get the ATI card, whereas if you're going to be playing openGL games, then get an Nvidia card. If you can afford it, save some bucks and get the 6600GT; it's a tad faster then the 9800, and has features that aren't found on the 9800XT. I mean, if it means waiting another week or something, wait, and get the better card.

Now, will your duron limit your GPU if you get either the 9800 or the 6600? Yes, it most certainly will. If you get the 6600GT, however, it'll last you a while longer than the 9800.

Well if i can get the old girl to do it i want half-life but i know thats out there.

So thats what i might do thanks. You if i would have come to this a few days ago i would have a nice cheap 6600 right now :p .
