I currently have a radeon 8500 and def need to upgrade something better. I don't want to go all out and spend $600 any time soon and was wondering what card should I go to in the $150-200 range? The card has to be AGP.

6800 GT is a much better deal overall but it costs too much ($275 US). You can save $50 US by getting the 6600 GT if you don't want the 6800 (non-GT).

Well, I had this window open ready to prove some people wrong because I was looking at benchmarks in another window. However, the X800 Pro, XT and XL are all more expensive than the 6800 non-GT.

The only thing that makes it real hard to compare the X800 to the 6800 or 6600 GT is the fact that I can't seem to find any darn benchmarks on them. Anybody have any benchmarks to the X800? I mean these ones...

They have rebates on many of them like they're trying to get rid of them.

\EDIT: Now I notice a weird trend. The frickin' ATI cards are more expensive compared to their "equally performing'' cards from Nvidia. What is wrong with them anyway? It used to be the other way around. Actually, I"m saying this because I finally found a cdrinfo.com review of the X800. Yeah, it's like equivalent to the 6600 GT (but not quite). Guess, that means the one in the first link is the best deal for the price after all. Sheesh.

I wanted to do research for the fun of it. I'm glad I did because this will help me big time next time I want to upgrade.

Now that I think of it, I know ATI announced they would keep on making AGP cards if the demand is there. If ATI keeps their prices this high for nothing, I may just end up getting a motherboard with PCI-E instead (when they come out with the Geforce 8 line).

Hey, maybe this is an odd question. But does anyone know what the price for mid level cards are when they come out? I wouldn't want to pay more than $300 CDN for a Geforce 8. It's just against my religion (joke) to pay too much for a video card.
 
I just upgraded from an 8500 to a 6800 and couldn't be happier. I think ATI's quality control and customer service has gone through the floor so I made the switch to nvidia. It's nice having a video card that actually works.
 
I upgraded from an ATI 8500 to a EVGA 6800GT (granted it costs more than the 6800) and the difference was night and day. I would imagine that the 6800 should produce noticable results.

I can get a refurbished X800 Pro for ~$200. Would that be a better card than the 6800 series NVIDIAs?
 
x800 pro only has 12 pipelines, so does the 6800 but it has the potential to unlock another 4 more, so I would go with the 6800(plus it's not a refurb).
 
A less powerful 6800gt.Like 5 fps less powerful..give or take.BUT thats if you can unlock all of them...
 
quit being scared and get a new mobo with the BFG 7800. im bought to buy one for my BF for like 450 from Dell.
 
Not everyone can blow 400-500 bucks on a vid card....I wouldnt even if i could.
