Here's the deal..i got a SWEET asus SLI motheboard but i just have enough to buy 1 6600GT,

i am hoping for the prices to go down sometime in january.

My question is do i buy a 6600GT now and another one later or do i save up for a 6800GT or 6900 and buy that then later get another one...

btw, i am 14 and im not really rollin in the bills by any means

Probably should save your money for tuition.

Given those two choices, though, I think saving up for the 6800GT would be best.

ya the dreaded tuition, i cant believe how much they are these days...maybe i could get a job at nVidia or something and get all this for free.. ;)

does anyone have any idea when we could see a dramatic price drop on most items

your not going to see a dramatic price drop any time soon..

the next generation might come out this summer. perhaps a small update this feb... but really no price drops.

a 6800 gt will be way more powerful but yet.. way more expensive.

a 6600 GT will be cheaper.. but really it just comes down to price and what you can afford.

if you can manage a 6800 gt.. get it.

if not get the 6600 GT'

your welcome.

One 6800 GT performs better in all tested games than two 6600 GTs in SLI, but not by a lot.

From the conclusion to [H]ard|OCP's NVIDIA SLI Upgrade Guide:

Almost across the board, the 6600 GT SLI delivered a better quality gaming experience than did a Radeon X800Pro or a GeForce 6800 GT. There is more bang for the buck value in a GeForce 6600 GT SLI configuration than anything comparable.

I'd say you'd be just fine with a 6600GT; you can add another card later if you need to.
