as title says, ive searched and searched and just cant make my choice on what i should get. either 6800gt,ultra if needed, x800xt, x850. which performs best at high resolution and resonable money(460$max) thanks, i will be getting dell 2005fpw in 1-2 months so thats why im asking. as of right now i have a 17lcd. usually run at 1280x1024

Gotta say - the x800/850xt will do a cracking job at high res (especially with plenty of aa & af - due to its monster fill rate).

I would have gotten hold of a Radeon myself if it had not been for supply issues (especially the X800XT PE). Don't get me wrong, I love my 6800Ultra. That said - the ATI solution rocks (most notably with anything D3D). In fact it's not too shabby in Doom3 either.

However the real clincher for me is the aa on the ATI cards - it's simply in a different class; though this is a highly contested point, I feel that I have had sufficient experience with both solutions.

Factor in the regular driver updates from ATI.....

wow thank you very much for the replies. sorry to not clear things up, i was tired, i will be definatley gaming about 85% so yes gaming is a huge factor. and also, it will pci-e (dfi ultra). so far though from the posts, ati x800 or x850? not gt or ultra?

Out of interest - what system are you going to be running?

Being a gamer myself - I would have to recommend the X850XT (no point in going for the PE - too much more for too little a return).

Sure, if you're going to be packing an SLI board, you may want to consider the nVidia solution (PCI-e) - though the next solution from nVidia & ATI will *most likely* whip any ++EDIT current ++ SLI/AMR solution. Depends on your fund situation (as does the X800/850 question - most places appear to be offering the X800XL at the moment, as opposed to the X800XT).

The age old question - how much can you afford? ;)

Depends on which games.

If it's pretty much all games, then your probably going to be using AA and AF? If so then ATI is your best bet, an X800XT OCed to XT-PE levels (not difficult) has some fantastic image quality.

As an aside - I've just had a look at your 'posts per day'..........

Do you work?! No disrespect (at all) - but my Tech Support role canes the hell out of any 'personal' time that I might be able to sneak whilst performing my role.

Jelly :)

EDIT: Granted I could post after hours, but I'm too busy gaming :D

Actually I do work, and have school (still a teenager) at school I have 3 classes during the day in which Im on a computer, since they are all easy, I basically finish my work in about half an hour, then I go on the interweb.

Then I go home, eat, do Homework, visit GF etc....

then from 5-10, I work at this chucky cheese type place, I am in charge of schedualing parties (I.E. people call me up, we want to reserve room # at * ocklcoc). Since this place is walk in, I get these like 4, maybe 5 times a week, so basically its just me, sitting on a computer for 5 hours.

During all that time Im bored.

Edit: In retrospec, I do post alot, But thats giving me my "Gawd" title, in like 2 months ;)

Edit2: Als, so many people lurk on these forums. For instance, in the Case Modding section, theres average like 80 people viewing, yet its one of the slowest forums, I see more posts in the Apple section (as in, you get a reply faster) and posts seem to die instantly.

Good choice!

I'm curious about this too. Although I have a HP 2335 (23" 1920x1200) monitor.

Right now I have a 6800GT, but just today the DVI connector seemed to have went bad. I am thinking about moving it to one of my other computers and just use it analog and buy something new.

I play a lot of World of Warcraft and stuff like Counterstrike (HL2). I obviously run a high resolution (1920x1200) and with 8x af. I don't really need much AA at that resolution though.

What do you think is my best bet? 6800 Ultra or go for the ATI AIW X800XT?

Is the ATI going to be slower than my 6800GT?

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I'd imagine that the AIW will be quicker than your GT (stock) in almost everything (bar Doom maybe). Aside from that *small* blemish, I say go for it!.

PCI-E or AGP?

for PCI-E, Radeons have always had the best image quality:

Or, for AGP you cna get the AIW X800XT

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-492&depa=1

But really, are you going to be doing alot of gaming?

What? Why do you think PCI-E Radeons have better image quality than AGP?

Also, I seriously doubt you could tell the difference playing a game, surfing the net, or watching a movie on two otherwise identical PC's, besides a X800 or 6800 card. The days of ATi having a distant lead in image quality is in the past, just as NV's distant lead in quality drivers is in the past.

To the poster, if you are going PCI-E, the X800XL is by far the best choice. A under $300, no other card can even come close to its performance. If you're going AGP, depending in your CPU, a 6800GT or X800XL would be as low as I would go. Obviously better card would be better, but more expensince as well.

I had a 2005FPW paired with a 6800GT, and it ran almost all games at 1680x1050 and max quality settings, even with some AA/AF at very good frames. I couldnt use AA in HL2 though, which sucked. Otherwise, it ran most games great. I wouldnt go any lower than a X800XL, or 6800GT.

already bought a x800xl at compusa thurs or fri :D just need to get my new comp built and running and a new moniter defienitaly :D hopefully a 2005fpw if i can trade for it
