What are the normal operating temp of the radeon hd 4870 1GB?

At idle, my GPU temp is steady at 78C. While playing crysis the temp goes up to 84C

I'm using GPU-Z, dunno if that is any good or is there's better?

the GPUs on the 4xxx series run very hot with out any outside fan control, while those temps are still "in spec" for the chip, I dont think you could find anyone that would argue that bringing the temps down via increasing the fan speed would be a bad thing.

The new Cat drivers have fan control built into them now. You should check those out, the temp plummets with fans set @ 30% - 35%

The hotter core on my 4870X2 idles at 72 and hits 85-90 under load. I am fairly certain these are normal temps.
