I am getting upto 59oC on each core under 100% load on my E6600 (stock cool)

I am wondering if I undervolt my CPU slightly will the temps go down?

If so what vcore should i run at?

I believe that stock vcore is 1.325...so just go down from there and see if it works.

Under volting works fine too. I have mine at 1.2875 and OCd to 3GHz. It may not reduce temps though. Even at stock my cpu runs hotter than others.

hmmm ...I wonder if my mobo is misreading temps then because I'm on air at 1.4v's and in bios it says like 32c on mobo and 28c on chip

What does TAT say??

I'm a recent convert from AMD's x2 chips to the realm of Core 2 Duo's ... haven't messed with intel chips since my P4 2.4c chip on a vapo that did 3.6ghz at default v's ...but anyways, whats TAT?

(I'll check other post' and google and prolly get my answer pretty quickly ..lol)
ahh .. Intel Thermal analysis tool
ahh ..and Core Temp is a program I see ..never used it before

I'll take a look at stuff on my comp when i get home from work tonite

I believe the VID varies from chip to chip. The week 29 E6600 I just got has a default VID of 1.225. I'm at 3.2ghz at an indicated 1.2v running Orthos. Stable as a rock.

There is no set stock vcore.

If you look thru the Intel whitepapers, you'll see stock is variable.

Stock is anywhere from 0.8-1.3625V

Core Temp proggy is saying 34C on one core and 37C on the other core (have Folding@Home running)

so how do I find what the stock for my CPU is?
you can set everything to auto in bios (restart if it isnt already set to auto) and then look at your hardware monitor in bios to see what cpu voltage is at .. if you cant find that reading in your bios ..first , just look harder :p

..or just boot into windows with everything set to auto in bios and download the Core Temp program (linked in previous post) and run it and it will tell you

..or go to intel website and read specs on your chip

...or , I could just tell you :)

1.3250v is what Core Temp says is my stock voltage on my e6600

CoreTemp is designed to read the digital temperature probe built into the new Intel / AMD64 processors. It tells no lies and is an eye opening experience for users that have been believing the numbers reported by their motherboard sensors for years.

Don't worry about these new higher numbers. As long as you keep the temps under the Intel rated amount as reported in CoreTemp you'll be fine.

Intel sets a range of voltages that their processors can run at so that if they have to make a slight change in manufacturing to the core voltage at a later date they won't be sued.

In general, 1.3250v is the voltage that most of the new Conroe / Allendale processors seem to be set at from the factory.

The AUTO setting on some motherboards like the Gigabyte DS3 won't tell you anything. It is designed to automatically add voltage when you overclock. I've seen readings of over 1.4 volts on an overclocked E6300 chip even though default voltage of 1.3250v was fine.

You can run whatever voltage you like as long as your system is stable with both cores under full load running Orthos or a similar program.
