What are some expectant PPD values?

I'm getting back into this with my work computer. I haven't done any folding in quite a long time. Just looking for some feedback on if I should tweak things of leave them be?

I've read lots of threads that state different ways to tweak the client to get better performance. However, most of these are older threads. I've also seen some that state that the current version 7 client doesn't need any optimization at all. Is this true? If not what are some resources for getting a little better performance?

My work/folding computer which is putting out about 16K PPD total.

AMDFX 8530OC - 4.5GHz
Radeon 7770
GeForce 640

Please make sure you have permission to fold on your work computer. I don't want you getting into any trouble. I asked at work, and I was denied. So I fold at home.

Best of luck. Glad to have you with us again.

Do you have your client type set to "advanced" for the GPUs (If it's applicable to those GPUs, I think it is)

Good advice. And yup, I asked and received permission from the bossman. Since it's my own personal computer he didn't care.

I have now.

Thanks for the info. I missed that. I've changed the cards I'm running. Now running a GTX690 and a GTX570DCII. The three GPUs and the 8core CPU are netting me around 100K PPD now.

I'll take the beta tag off and just let it run normally now.

^^ GTX690?
Someone chime in here please, but I thought this card alone would do over 100K?
Maybe it's a bad estimate or it is not running 24/7 that has me confused...

From EVERY report I've seen, the GTX 690 should do as much or slightly more than a Titan (160K PPD) without touching anything. Each 680 does around 80K stock. My guess is you're running full CPU Folding not realizing when running the beta flag each GPU doing so needs a FULL CPU core otherwise PPD will drop significantly. There is also the off chance he isn't running 24/7 which for the money I would have to do personally to get my moneys worth lol.

Yes, I run both machines 24/7. I thought that my PPD should be higher too actually. But the 690 chugs along at the same pace no matter if I have the CPU set at 6 cores, not running, or running full steam on all 8. Not sure what is setup wrong.

I thought that maybe it was the beta flag, so I removed the CPU from the slots, stopped/deleted the wu and started both cores of the 690 up again. After about a hour it's sitting at an estimated 48K PPD for the box, which is about the same as before with the beta flag and the CPU running full steam.

Normal was:
Box 1 (GTX690/FX8530) :
GPU1: 20K-30K
GPU2: 20K-30K
CPU: 10K-15K

Box2 (GTX570DCII):
GPU: 20K-25K

What about the driver version? I hear the new ones are really bad for 600 Series GPU's points wise and pretty much any non-GK110 card. One of the reasons I wont update my driver past 326.80. If you're running a version higher than that I'd try rolling back and seeing what that does for you. Of course probably would be best to wait for all slots to finish before doing so unless you don't mind taking the hit just to see if it fixed the problem.

Do you have a passkey and have completed 10 WU with >80% success rate? How are you measuring your PPD? Many of us use HFM. If you do, make sure you have it configured to calculate bonus PPD.

Running the current driver, 331.65. I didn't realize it was worse off than the older one. I'll try to roll back later after the current work is finished.

Yes, Yes, and haven't actually calculated it. Just going off of the v7 client where it shows the PPD of the machine and the Estimated PPD of the selected work unit. Thanks for the tip on the HFM. Just installed and configured it. It is not showing any bonus for the GTX690. The GTX570DCII, however is. I'll try again after rolling back the drivers and take a look at things.

It would appear that rolling back to the 326.80 drivers worked. For the past couple of days I've gotten the 8900WU and the GTX690 is putting out 149KPPD alone. I'm hoping to get my watercooling supplies in soon and OC the card to more performance out of it.
