Well i have a Dell XPS 720 and an intel extreme processor. Dont remember which one, but everything is fine when i over clock in the BIOS to 2.9ghz. I didnt overclock my memory or so.

but when I overclock my 285GTX and the FSB with the nVidia system tools everything is al ittle choppy. CPUID confirms it is overclocked but am i doing anything wrong? pushing it too hard? Thanks
 
sounds like you maxed your card out. I would run it at stock to see if that corrects it.
 
I have never liked the nvidia system tools, previously known as "ntune".

I'd use the BIOS to OC the CPU and then use MSI Afterburner to work on the GTX 285.

Did you adjust the fan speed on the 285 when you OC'd it. OC=heat and if the graphic is crapping out it means the GPU is working too hard.
With Afterburner you have full reign over the GPU frequency, shader clocks, memory and fan speeds.
 
MSI afterburner eh? thanks all, maybe ill look into it. Should i be messing with the FSB at all or just do the "auto" function through the dell BIOS.

and yes I had the fan running at like 70%. I think ill just put it at 100% just incase
